California Licensing

Guard Card Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and undergo specific background checks preformed by the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). A training course of 40 hours must be completed, consisting of 8 hours prior to assignment, 16 hours within the first 30 days of employment and and additional 16 hours within the first 6 months of employment. Applicants are not allowed to work in the field until a valid Guard Card or BSIS approved online print is available.

Firearms Permit Guards may not carry a weapon while on duty unless an authorized Firearms Permit has been issued. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or legal alien residents who have permanent status. A 14 hour training course must be completed along with submission of all required applications. Non-refundable fees apply. NOTE: A Firearms Permit does not permit the use of a concealed weapon.

Chemical Agents Includes the certification of Pepper Spray and O/C. BSIS does not issue nor regulate Chemical Agent certifications but it is recommended that all applicants be trained by the manufacturers specifications, or that of the licensed training facility administering the test.

Baton Permit A valid BSIS approved Guard Card is a prerequisite to obtaining a Baton Permit. Training involves an 8 hour course from a certified instructor who is part of a licensed training facility. A Baton Permit is mostly site specific, depending on the location of the guards assignment. Some companies require the wear of a baton when carrying any form of chemical agents.

Restraint Permit Similar to Baton, a restraint permits is usually site oriented, depending on the guards assignment. This permit assists in limitation of liabilities and requires a 2 hour training session as offered by a licensed training facility.

Oregon Licensing

Guard Card Applicants must be at least 18 years of age is unarmed and 21 years of age if armed. A record of state mandated Security Guard training must be submitted with a notarized application and the required application fee. Conviction of sever crimes are considered disqualifying.

Washington Licensing

Guard Card Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and a legal U.S. citizen or registered alien resident. Conviction of a crime in any jurisdiction is not accepted. All applicants must already be employed with a Security Company or have a provided job offer from a Security Company. Applications and fees must be submitted with fingerprint card to the Department of Licensing once the proper training course has been completed.
